Igor the Bicycle Hoarder: Pedal Power
Posted by: brad on Friday, September 11th, 2009 2:55 am
This is a pretty cool story, i really want to see the film now.
When Igor Kenk watched TV, he’d flip between business news and the Speed Channel.
When he needed music to smooth the day’s rough edges in his rundown bike shop, he turned to postmodern classical.
And when he sat down like Tony Soprano with a female therapist last fall, Mr. Kenk was almost apologetic, in his profanely articulate way, as he rationalized his compulsion to hoard bicycles.

EighthInch Full Review!
Posted by: kris on Thursday, September 10th, 2009 2:40 amA few weeks back i received a nice little package from Noah over at EighthInch. With the launch of their new site came an extension to their full line of fixed specific accessories to include everything from cogs and lockrings to cranks and chainrings. Ive had the better part of a month to use and abuse everything they sent out…the following is a complete review of their entire product line!
As im heavy into tricking, my bikes are usually set up so that i can hit spots no matter where i end up. However, a few months ago i parked the car and have been commuting by bike everywhere as well. That being said, and the fact that everyone enjoys long leisurely rides
, I set up this stuff for both tricking and “just riding”…then rode it into the ground, threw it down stairs, ground it on ledges and took it on those necessary extended rides just to take it easy.
The Set Ups:
NEOPIXX: Rider X.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 11:26 amOne day I decided…Hey, I like looking at cool pictures of nice bikes. These are two such photos. Neopixx with the flick. Trispokes will always have a special place in my heart haha. Key swag in the second shot is pretty spiffy too.
Sean Martin for Affinity.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 11:01 amKenichi Ito: Baramon.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 11:36 amI haven’t seen one of these bad boys in a bit! From what I know Baramon’s are relatively rare frames made in Fukuoka Japan. I’ve seen some nice track frames but these “funny” pursuit bikes are way sick. 24 inch araya steeze up front and some nice vintage bits on there. Seriously a cool ride from Kenichi’s flickr.
State Bicycle Co: The Contender.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 11:23 amSafe to say that State Bicycle Co. is serious about the web videos. This bit reminded me of when I first started riding in downtown years ago…really made me want to get out on a super late night ride like back in the day. Chill vibes in this for sure.
Eighthinch $399 Scrambler Completes!
Posted by: kris on Friday, May 11th, 2012 12:54 pmHere’s a deal if I’ve seen one! The homies at Eighthinch are bringing you completes of their ever popular Scramblers for just $399. I’ve always had one of these around for at least just riding and even used to ride these for fixed freestyle. Bottom line is these are real nice for the price and if you’re looking from something to cruise around on this will be perfect. I’m actually thinking about grabbing one of the silver on raws for to have…they look real nice. These come in three different color options that all look pretty sick. Grab one over at the Eighthinch store!
Soulcraft: Meet Your Maker Tour.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 2:36 pmThis is actually a collaborative event between a bunch of Northern California hand bike builders and is such a cool idea! We have NAHBS every year to check out awesome craftsmanship from the countries handmade bicycle builders. When is there a chance to meet up and cruise around with the dudes behind the bikes? Well now you can hit the trails or the streets with some solid builders doing what they love on the Meet Your Maker Tour. I plan on making it to one of the road events of this as it would have to be pretty sweet. This first one up is presented in part by Soulcraft which is how this ended up in my email. May 26th…get some MTB time in in Santa Rosa. Bound to be a good time.
Alex Blanco Bike Check.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 11:48 amHere’s another one I have to show some love for. Mark shot me this bike check of Alex who i feel is a pretty underrated rider. Dudes kills it! I first me Alex daysss ago at iMiNUSD and he’s always a chill dude. Bike is looks way proper and that peg work is on point!
Dennis Lo Designs: Colossi’s.
Posted by: kris on Friday, May 4th, 2012 10:38 amThere’s a ridiculous amount of Colossi photos to drool over on Dennis Lo’s flickr right now. I saw a couple in my flickr browsing then clicked through and almost lost it haha. Seriously some quality shots of beautiful frame/sets worth checking out. There’s full sets of each of the four bikes pictured below so I suggest jumping over to check them…then hitting Dennis’ site for more quality work!
Maca n’ Style: Clary’s Custom LDG Paint.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 1:40 pmPeeped these shots of Jason’s custom paint LDG on the Macaframa bloggy just now. This is the whip you’ll see him on this weekend at Ride and Style. I’ve always had a soft spot for fade paint jobs…rocked a few myself. Looks clean!
Foffa Bikes: A day in Antwerp.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 10:53 amThis is a really well done ad right here for Foffa Bikes. Its really cool what good promotion and direction can do for a company. There’s a slew of “custom” complete bike websites out these days but only a few that are really making an effort to keep it classy. I dig it.
Beret Baguette Ride.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 1:52 pmSaw some flicks of this a few days ago but I had no idea how massive this ride was. I don’t think I’ve an any urban cycling ride this big in forever. Seriously a group to be reckoned with on the streets I’m sure haha. Looks like a damn good time! Check more flicks on STphotographie’s flickr. Lotsss of bikes, vintage clothes and sunny skies. Sure this was a blast.

Cre8tive Class First Friday Bikeride.
Posted by: kris on Friday, May 4th, 2012 2:13 pmAlrighty so this chill ride video did tow things for me. First, anyone want to hit up Oakland one Friday and ride with the C8C crew? Looks like they have a good time and the ride eds at the Oakland Art Murmur which is sick. Second, I think I’ll go ahead and start up some regular monthly rides again…something along the lines of Effin’ Fridays. Sounds like a plan to me.
Were The Hell Is Waldo III.
Posted by: kris on Friday, May 4th, 2012 12:08 pmGood trailer for what I’m sure will be a sick alleycat! Super cool that there will be three simultaneous races going on in three cities across the country…from LA to BK! Check the video and the description below…
WHERE THE HELL IS WALDO is an all city “Alley Kat Style” Scavenger hunt race. Cyclist are given an address and clues of where to find Waldo (real person or wheat paste) at key landmarks through out the city. No route, however you get there is up to your knowledge of the city. This year, in honor of our 3 year anniversary, we will be hosting the WHIS3 in Brooklyn NY, Los Angeles CA, and San Antonio, TX on the same day!!!
After parties are TBA, but request to host have already been put in our ear. As you know we like to ride hard and play hard so lets have fun!!!!!
Red Bull Ride N’ Style: Matt Reyes.
Posted by: kris on Friday, May 4th, 2012 11:52 amComing into this years Ride N’ Style Matt was one to watch considering he took the even last year. With his super smooth style and crazy bike control he rode the course like a beast. Matt probably has the best tuck no handers in the game plus a bag of other tricks some people can’t even pull. His threes were dialed and his used of some of the obstacles way different than everyone else. I really dug his nosie across the quarter on the wallride set up. All his runs were way sick!
Red Bull Ride N’ Style: Mike Schmitt.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 2:28 pmI remember meeting Mike at the first Midwest Mayhem and thinking he was nuts. I mean…hanging from the rafters of a skatepark with a broken wrist to drop into pretty damn steep bank is pretty is crazy. Crazy sick that is. Mike always brings something super off the wall and way dope to competitions. This year at Ride N’ Style he went all out pretty much hopping into the judges booth. I wanted to see him land this so bad! Luckily I snagged a flick of it though…so rad dude!
Red Bull Ride N’ Stlye: Jakob Santos.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 12:43 pmWhen riding a major event like Ride N’ Style it pretty necessary to do some tricks that set you apart from the rest of the group. Everyone, Jakob included, had some super dope wallrides and grinds but it was Santos 180 out of the course that I thought was way sick. Not too many people trying to fly out into the crowd this year but Jakob made it look easy.
FannyPakkFilms: Ride N’ Stlye.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 12:58 pmHere’s one more Ride N’ Style edit. Shot from what appears outside the course…gives you another angle. I probably won’t be posting much more videos from the event but stay tuned for more flicks from me!
Red Bull Ride + Style 2012.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 11:48 amSo I’ve been trying to spread out the Ride N’ Style coverage on here and keep content varied…but there’s no way I’d skip out on a recap from Mon. Real sick stuff from everyone in this. And there’s a ton of people in this haha. Good to see ya out there dude!
TFTC Edition 2.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 11:35 amLast year Tales from the Crit got a good amount of attention and with good reason. It looks super fun! It’s coming back for a second year packing a ton of sponsors. Here’s an initial teaser video for the event…peep the official site for more!
Rolfixie Bags.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 10:53 amI’ve posted up some stuff from Rolfixie before so when I came across these bag flicks I was familiar with the brand. Looks like they’re doing up some messenger bags that have some familiar or noticeable graphics. Being that these dudes are from Santiago Chile you can probably get away with making a Deadmau5 or “dubstep” bag a bit easier. Being from the states I know people will be all over something like that. Rolfixie has a slew of new bags up on their flickr that are looking pretty well made. Hit them up on the web spot to snag one!
SKYLMT x YNOT.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 10:21 amCaught a few flicks of these bad boys on Miles Mathias ride this weekend as well. Skylmt and Ynot teaming up to bring you some dope footy retention. Talking to Colby about these he said these one are just prototypes and that a new version is on the way. Regardless these things looks way fresh and that color is sick! Look for these soonish!

Rolfixie Hip Bag.
Posted by: kris on Friday, April 20th, 2012 3:34 pmI feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of hip bags coming out these days. Here’s another one that looks to haul a good amount of stuff from Rolfixie. Definitely not into the pattern but it looks pretty functional. Caught these on their flickr but i think you have to hit the email on their site to order stuff…
Epiffny: Let’s Get Weird.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, April 19th, 2012 11:22 amSometimes emails slip into my inbox and never se the light of day. Luckily I got to this Epiffny bit before it was too late! The started a promo sale last Friday (the 13th) and decided to extend it till this coming Monday. Any order over $35 gets 10% off with the code “letsgetweird”. Oh did I mention they just dropped a bunch of fresh stuff for spring? Go check the new threads!
Tested Tested: Chrome Warsaw Pro. (sticky)
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 3:21 pmIf you know me you know I dig some nice bags. Usually I’ll flip through a few before I find on I’m really into and down to use on the daily. After rocking a Chrome Metropolis while working for almost a year I decided I need to mix things up a bit again. While perusing the Chrome store I came across the Warsaw Pro and was instantly smitten. These things have been around for a bit but I’m beyond stoked on this backpack. Below is a little run down of just why I love it and some flicks to show you the features…click through for the whole post!
Look:
Not much to say here…other than it looks way fresh. I’ve always been partial to backpacks and this is big yet really well designed. Love the way that hug flap looks and the over shap of the bag not being too long.
Kagero Roll Top from Blaq.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, April 12th, 2012 10:13 amSo I’ve kind of become a hoarder of bags as of late. I’ve been forcing myself to get rid of ones I don’t use to make way for fresh bits. I’m also a sucker for backpacks like the Kagero roll top here from Blaq. Looks well designed and real functional for carrying all your goodies. Patrick is making some fresh goods these days!
Yanco & Tracko: Thompson Wallet.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 10:59 amCarsick Designs Bar Bags.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 4:33 pmI caught these sick bags on the Carsick Designs flickr page a bit earlier. Until now I hadn’t heard of them but it appears they make some damn nice hand made bags and accessories. These bar bags would be perfect for touring or maybe even trail rides if you’re tossing them on something classy. I’m definitely into them. Solid looking canvas with leather accents all made by hand! They even look fresh mounted up under your seat like the flick below. Check Carsick and their flickr for more flicks of their goods.

Posted by: kris on Friday, May 11th, 2012 1:19 pmSooo if you’ve been on here a bit you know I make poke fun at feeble bars quite a bit. It really has nothing to do with the trick itself. I actually like the feeble bars but I usually reference how everyone and their mom started doing them. That being said, here’s a dope shot from Stdfst of Syun-Lee tossing a nice one. Dig it.

SOFB 8.
Posted by: kris on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 2:53 pmStoked on Fixed Bikes back at it with issue number eight. This is a seriously sick publication that is killing it with over 100 pages of fixed goodness. A little bit of a wait on this one but it was well worth it. So much good content for every kind of fixed riding from fixed freestyle to race coverage to nice flicks from around the world. So rad!
We Ride SeoulCity Part 1.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 11:45 amI’ve wanted to hit up Seoul for quite some time now. With all the spots you see in the videos and how crackin the scene seems to be how could you not? A lot of cool places and some nice tricks up in this one from Kim. I can dig it.
Missing Toronto.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 11:14 amI was beyond stoked to see a video from Swoo a couple weeks back. He dropped this one recently of some stuff from before he peaced out of Toronto. Some fun clips up in this. Glad BHSK caught this otherwise it might have slipped by me!

Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 11:01 amPhillip Williams for Dorcia.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 9:44 amLooks like Phil Will is repping Grime now in his newest web joint. Some good hits in this one as usual and that G.O.A.T. is looking pretty spiffy. That yellow rail looks pretty prime as well. Good stuff duder!
FOAD: Sam Sings Pt 3.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 9:33 amThis is a fun little b side bit from FOAD. These dudes look like they’re always having a damn good time. Definitely a good piece to start your morning haha.
La Famiglia A Zurigo.
Posted by: kris on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 9:17 amChill vibes…and some track tricks! Haha. Really a cool little riding video though. Bikes in the city with friends? Yeah it’s this time of year!
Francis Roque May 2012.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 12:44 pmA good one from Francis for May. Dude’s stepping up his game for sure with some sick hits in this. Diggin that manny pad work for sure. The 209 crew keeping them coming.
Skatepark Day.
Posted by: kris on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 12:00 pmOmar with a cool little park day edit of him and the homies. Lots of fun stuff in this including some double hits. Good mix of tricks in there from everyone. Dig it.
