After the recent Oakley Crossrange meet we figured we should pick the brain of the man behind the glasses and put together a few quick ones for Chas. He was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule to shoot us some pretty solid answers for our first interview in some time…click through for the whole deal!

1. For those who don’t know you, when and what got you started down the road on two wheels?

Chas: Hey what’s up my name is Chas, I live in San Francisco CA and try to generally shred life as hard as possible.  I have been riding bikes since I was a kid, to and from school, ripping trails on the weekends.  I got seriously into cycling in Portland, Oregon around 2004 when I got my first CX bike and started racing locally.  It was there that came across bike messengers, racing cyclocross races on their track bikes… literally a slippery slope, and after that I was hooked.

A couple of weeks ago I hopped the train up to San Francisco to check out the release of a new offering from Oakley. We met up with Chas Christensen at Oakley’s Market street location, and settled in for a quick rundown on the new frames before heading out on a ride. First, a little about the new sunglasses and then a few questions for Chas.

The Crossrange Collection is a lot like Clark Kent and Superman –  one pair of shades, but with a quick swap of the arms and nose piece, changing from casual hangout to ride ready doesn’t require a phone booth!

Chillin’ – The Lifestyle earsocks have a more relaxed fit for all day comfort, and the nose piece holds them closer to your face.

Ridin’ – The earsocks have a much more snug fit paired with Unobtanium™ over the ears to help them stay put on your face once you begin to sweat. The nose piece keeps the frames farther away from your face and also features Unobtanium™ to keep them in place.

Lenses- built from a series of dyes that are made to control the color contours. Though created to increase the visibility of road markings,  they also have specific trail prizm lenses if you are more of an off road trail rider.

Chas talked a little about his daily routine, gave the group a few pointers of riding in city traffic and we were off.

Chas getting down with reflective materials and lighting up the night for MASH in this newest bit. Crazy to think this was all produced with smartphones and some proper creativity both in front and behind the lens. Click through for the behind the scenes footage and be sure to pop over to MASH as usual!

After sweet tracklocross event here in Sac I knew this SF gathering would be just as fresh. Prior obligations kept me from making it out so this bit from the Turf dudes hit the spot. Good to see some familiar faces out there ripping and the course for this one looked beyond fun. This was a fundraiser for this years Westside Invite in Oakland which is bound to be worth hitting up!

This is probably the best thing I’ve seen video wise for fixed freestyle in some time. Matt Reyes showing you that if you don’t know Mike or Andy you’re already blowing it…

After moving to the Bay Area from Sac our dude Eazie is has been out and about taking in as much as he can. Despite crit season being about “over” he came back with a good collection from last weekend’s Golden State Criterium. You can expect a bit more from him here in the future but for the time being go peep his gallery for the night at the races!

Back when I first picked up a track bike and was consumed by it these dudes were the ones to watch. Long time shredders with the MASH crew this one is a treat as it was a supplement to the initial release….and likely my favorite to come from the collection…Walton’s sparks are too great!

When you’re putting in countless hours on a film there’s bound to be plenty of friends comig and going through production. The most recent section released from MASH is the compilation of friends both far and near shredding while in San Francisco. So much stoke for this part…reminds me of the original release in ’07 that really kicked things off.

MASH is keeping the first of the month fun with another section from their most recent release. Hulk hands and Heelys take over SF with none other than Matt Shapiro!
